LMFT Licensure in Rhode Island

After completing a graduate degree in marriage and family therapy or a related field, candidates that are looking for licensure in this field will need to complete post-graduate experience and the national exam.

MFT Licensure Requirements

Educational requirements set by the state include 60 credit hours of coursework and 500 hours of direct client contact with half of that amount toward couples and multiple family members at one time. Those that have completed a COAMFTE-accredited program have already satisfied this criteria. Under the separate clinical experience, applicants will need to rack up 2,000 additional direct client contact hours. 100 of these hours need to be completed by a licensed supervisor, or one that was approved by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
