Marriage and Family Therapist Degrees in Alaska
In order to pursue an online program, prospective students should consider the technical requirements needed. Typically, a modern computer that operates a Windows or Mac operating system is needed to run all software for the learning management system, and high-speed internet access is recommended for viewing class lectures.
Students should also be aware of any on-campus residencies. These can be included in the curriculum to give students one-on-one training prior to diving into the program content, and it provides a way for students to personally faculty and other peers.
LMFT Licensure in Alaska
Licensure for marriage and family therapy is distributed through the Alaska Board of Marital and Family Therapy. At least a Master’s degree should be obtained by the applicant, and coursework within the degree should cover topics in marital and family studies and therapy, human development, and research. Approximately nine credit hours should be taken in clinical studies. After completion of the degree, applicants will need to show completion of supervised practice. In Alaska, candidates will need to compile 1,500 hours of direct client contact, in addition with at least 200 hours of supervision. At least six hours of domestic training violence is needed, along with the completion of the national exam, in order to apply for state licensure.
